A Dream Come True

Winning Photo of the DC evening group on the Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photo Walk

Still Waters, Winning Photo of the DC evening group on the Scott Kelby

I WON!!

Jeff Revell chose my photograph, Still Waters, as the winner of the DC evening group during Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk! What an honor!

Last Saturday, Bill and I, and our son, Caleb, were privileged to be a part of Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk, with the evening DC group. It is slated to be a yearly event since it was so well received: over 7,000 participants all over the world, not to mention those who did their own personal photo walk because their city wasn’t a host.

Jeff Revell was the host of not one, but TWO, photo walks for the metro area since there was such a huge response from people wanting to join in. So he had the difficult task of choosing just one winner for each group out of over 1100 submitted photos. After seeing the submitted photos, I did not envy him.  They were all great!

Since he chose one of my photographs as a winner, I will get a free copy of Scott Kelby’s newest book about the Lightroom 2 software!! I used LR2 to process all the pictures I took on the Photowalk, and I’m already a big fan! I can’t wait to get his book and find out how to use all its features!

This also means my photo will go to the next round and be judged along with over 200 other city winners by Scott Kelby for the HUGE grand prize package!!

Hmm…can you tell I’m excited? Lots of exclamation points! I just want to thank everyone at Photoshop User magazine, http://www.scottkelby.com Scott Kelby and his staff, and Jeff Revell for having such an enjoyable opportunity to get to know other photography enthusiasts. Can’t wait for the next one!

He loves me!

Our wedding day

Our wedding day

Bill and I celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary this August. If you want to get a good laugh, check out our wedding photo from 1982. Yes, Bill had an afro! I must admit the afro was MY idea…I talked him into getting a perm, because I loved the natural, soft curls he had when his hair was wet.

I can still remember the look on his Dad’s face when I was perming his hair to get those soft curls I thought were so handsome. As I was putting in the curlers, his Dad was in the room reading the paper. He pulled the newspaper aside to peer over his glasses to look at his 6′3″ submarine sailor son wearing curlers, shook his head and went back to reading the paper. LOL! I guess he was prepared for anything by then…Bill was the one who enlisted in the navy at 18 and told his parents after it was official, and it was his idea to get his ear pierced and wear an earring before it was the popular thing to do. Bill didn’t mind having such an easy hair style back then…he called it his “wake and shake” hair. :)

We had a relaxing and fun day together on the day after our anniversary; sleeping in, shopping, shooting pictures, eating out and going to a movie. Sleeping in is a luxury we don’t have any more with the current work and school schedules. Speaking of luxuries, Bill went overboard and bought me a new camera lens that we’ve been wanting for taking pictures of ballet. I am now the proud owner of a Tamron 70-200mm, F2.8 lens! It’s AWESOME! The only drawback is that it is as heavy as a small child! It even comes with its own tripod mount! We went to take pictures of the beautiful landscapes and some barns that Bill passes everyday on his commute, and ended up meeting a man who owns a horse ranch and he invited us to take pictures of his wife teaching his grandkids to ride. It was such a pleasant surprise. The new lens performed beautifully. I’ll soon try and put up some photos that I took with it.

In the mean time, here’s a page I made about the new lens. I thought dh deserved a little shout out about it for being so thoughtful!
